Customize Windows Live Messenger to suit your
mood.
1. Click on the paintbrush
Move your mouse over the upper right corner of the contacts pane so the paintbrush icon appears.
Click the icon.
2. Choose your scene
You can select background scenes and coordinating color schemas. Click "Apply" to see a preview and
then click "OK" when you're done.
3. Your friends see it, too
Your friends see your background scenes and colors, too, and you can change the scenes whenever you
want to express your style.

Post a personal message that all your contacts
see.
1. Type a personal message
On your contacts pane, just click and type your personal status message.
2. See your new message
Your status is desplayed in your Contacts window.
3. Share your message
Your status is displayed along with your name so all your contacts can see it.

Get updates on the friends in your Windows Live
network.
1. Check out "What's New"
The "What's New" feed at the bottom of your contacts pane lets you know what your friends are doing
online. See who added photos or commented on blogs.
2. Expand your view
You can expand the "What's New" area by dragging the blue line to see thumbnails of friends' photos and
other details. It's an easy way to stay in touch with what the friends in your Windows Live network are
doing.

Change the size and placement of your contacts
display.
1. Click the "Layout" icon
2. Select "Layout" from the menu
3. Choose your view
You can change the size of the icons and move the categories around for quick access to your
contacts.
4. Click "Apply" for a preview
You can see how your contact list will display by clicking the "Apply" button. When you're happy with
the arrangement, click "OK".

Go directly to Hotmail from MSN Messenger
1. Get notification about new mail
The mail icon automatically updates to let you know you have new e-mail in Hotmail (and in Windows Live
Mail if you have it installed).
2. Go to your mail
Click the icon to instantly read your new messages.
