MSN Messenger, now called the live
messenger is a popular platform for virus creators. They use very innovative and seemingly
genuine ways to infect innocent users and steal their data privacy. Recently a new variation of
the chat virus was noticed in the MSN messenger which sent out porn messages to the contacts in
the infected messenger of a user.
What this virus essentially does is send something like "HOT!
HOT! HOT! " followed with some virus domain with a porn keyword like "isexsexsex" or
"hotpictures" or the like. On clicking on this link, it infects the computer and starts sending
the message to those in your contact list.
The problem with MSN virus is that they are not easily
detectable with common anti-virus software. So, it does not really protect you from messenger
virus. However, once you notice that you are infected, it is possible to remove the virus with
tools like Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and spybot.
Use the above mentioned tool and run them in safe-mode on your
computer to remove those pesky viruses and then reboot in normal mode. Once your viruses are
removed, you can use a online virus scanning service from ASquared, HouseCall or ESET to
further check and remove possible viruses from your messenger.
To keep safe from future attacks, be aware of these automated
chat messages from your contacts and think twice before clicking any link. Also, having a
anti-virus like Kaspersky, Avira or others will be helpful in preventing attacks from browser
and email attachments. Hope these tips are helpful to you as they were to me when I was
starting off. Happy chatting with MSN!
